Meet Some of our YFI Interns
During YouthForce Internship, our interns do incredible things. During the Summer 2019, around 240 New Orleans public school students participated in YouthForce Internship. Meet 3 interns from the amazing Summer 2019 cohort below
Montgomery
Intern at Lucid
Meet Montgomery
Montgomery is a rising senior at NOMMA who is interning at Lucid, a software company in New Orleans. Montgomery was ecstatic when he found out he would intern at Lucid because it builds on years of interest in the field of software development. Montgomery took classes at Operation Spark, where they taught him some of the foundational technical skills needed to succeed in software development, including various coding languages.
Montgomery’s internship at Lucid is teaching him new things such as how to code in Python. “I finally started at my dream job,” Montgomery shares when talking about what this internship means to him.
Khaija
Intern at Ochsner
Khaija is a rising senior at Landry-Walker, and she is interning with Ochsner’s Neurology Department. Khaija is taking classes at the New Orleans Career Center, where she is working to earn the credentials that prepare her to be a Medical Assistant.
Khaija was incredibly excited for her internship, and she loves the insights into the medical field she is receiving while working at Ochsner. When asked about her hopes for the internship, Khaija shared, “I’m hoping that I can network well and meet different professionals. I hope that I can learn more about occupations in the medical field.”
Maurice
Intern at Frischhertz
Maurice is a rising senior at Livingston Collegiate, and he is interning at Frischhertz, an electrical company with almost 70 years of experience in New Orleans. Maurice's interest in electrical work comes from his father and grandfather, who did the same thing. Maurice takes classes at NOTEP, where he has received credentials and technical training in carpentry and electrical work.
At Frischhertz, Maurice is learning to use his skills to fabricate electrical equipment for businesses and homes around the region. “They’ve shown me what to do and what not to do -- and how to do it all safely,” said Maurice. Maurice hopes that his experience at Frischhertz helps him reach his goal of starting his own carpentry and electrical business.
